Scatliff + Miller + Murray

The Association of Consulting Engineering Companies Manitoba has honoured Scatliff+Miller+Murray with a 2011 Award of Merit for our role in coordinating the Active Transportation Infrastructure Stimulus Program, a $20 million initiative funded by three levels of government.  Working closely with our colleagues at Stantec Consulting, our firms helped coordinate the planning, design, approval and construction of nearly 100 kms of bicycle infrastructure within the City of Winnipeg’s Active Transportation Network.

Scatliff+Miller+Murray and Stantec coordinated the work of seven engineering firms and provided technical design guidance on all 35 routes. SMM created and managed a consultation process that helped to educate Winnipeggers about the principles behind active transportation, different types of AT facilities that could be built, and to gain local feedback on preferred options. Within a three month timeframe, SMM coordinated meetings, public open houses and workshops for new routes at locations throughout the city. These events increased local awareness and fostered dialogue about active transportation among citizens, and the feedback we obtained was helpful in enhancing the final designs.

Construction of the new AT facilities began in the summer of 2010. We’ll feature photos on our blog this spring, so check here often.
